Soros was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1930. His family was split up after the Nazis occupied the city in 1944 and he was sent to live with another family. He was able to rejoin his family a year later and they moved to England. George Soros eventually moved to New York, in 1959, and became a stock trader. It was after he opened an office in Moscow in in 1987 that he truly opened his coffers, going from giving $3 million a year to $300 million.
